Mastering the Surf Cube in Fortnite – Location, Abilities & Fli

  • Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3: Super has introduced players to a brand-new mobility item—the Surf Cube. This high-tech hoverboard brings a new layer of traversal, letting players glide across terrain and even take to the skies for brief moments. Here’s how to add this item to your loadout and use it effectively in your matches.

Surf Cube Location – Where to Find It
The easiest way to get the Surf Cube is by visiting Lightrider, a special NPC hanging out at Shiny Shafts. For 300 Gold Bars, you can grab this mobility marvel and zoom around the map in style.

If you’re not near Shiny Shafts or looking for a more adventurous route, try your luck in these locations:

Academy Tech Labs – Known to house experimental gear

Spires – Break them for potential rare loot drops

Hero Cache Chests (B-tier or higher) – Occasionally spawn the Surf Cube

While these options are random, they’re great backup plans when Lightrider isn't accessible or already eliminated by another player.

Surf Cube Mechanics – Surf, Fly, and Glide
Once equipped, activate the Surf Cube using R2/RT/Left-Click. Your character will immediately begin surfing, moving significantly faster than sprinting and able to coast over water. Plus, you’ll never have to worry about fall damage while surfing—it absorbs impact entirely.

The Surf Cube’s signature mechanic is Flight Mode. Activated with L2/LT/Right-Click, Flight Mode gives you a brief (6-second) burst of aerial freedom, letting you zoom in any direction. It’s perfect for repositioning or catching a high-ground advantage. Keep in mind the short cooldown—it recharges for another 6 seconds before being usable again.

While gliding, pressing jump lets you hop obstacles, but jumping mid-air will halt the surf, so don’t hit it accidentally. Also, because you can’t fire weapons while surfing or flying, you’re vulnerable to attacks—use it strictly as a traversal utility.
